Hire a boat, with or without a licence

Good to know: without a licence you can drive a small 15 hp boat; fuel is extra. Around ten other rental companies are based at Torrevieja's Marina Salinas.

🦩 Torrevieja's salt lakes and pink lagoon

Swimming in the pink lagoon is forbidden, but you can visit the salt works on a guided tour (free access is not allowed):

  • By little train: about 1 hour, with commentary in several languages, stopping at the salt viewpoint and the pontoon over the lagoon. Every day, 10am–6pm in winter and 10am–8pm in summer (minimum 6 people per departure; check times on their website).
  • On foot or with your own bike: a 3.4 km guided route between the salt mountains, the old factories and the lagoons (minimum 5 people, helmet compulsory by bike).
  • Sunset tasting: local salted fish and La Mata wine, on top of the salt mountain. Booking required.

👨‍👩‍👧 With the family

  • E-scooters: shared scooters via an app in Orihuela Costa, with nearly 200 parking zones.

Can I hire a boat without a licence in Orihuela Costa?
Yes: at Cabo Roig marina (Boat Rental Cabo Roig) and at Torrevieja's Marina Salinas (J.L. Boats, among others), small boats can be hired without a licence, by the hour or the day.

Can I visit the Torrevieja salt lakes?
Yes, on a guided tour only: by little train (about 1 hour, from Paseo de la Libertad), on foot or by bike. Swimming in the pink lagoon is forbidden.

Is there a water park near Orihuela Costa?
Yes, Aquopolis Torrevieja, open in summer, with around fifteen attractions. For a full day out, the Benidorm parks are also within reach.

How do I get to Tabarca island?
By boat from Torrevieja port with Marítimas Torrevieja (about 1 hour's crossing), or by hiring a boat with a licence.

What is there to do with children?
Aquopolis in summer, go-karting in Ciudad Quesada (from age 5), the salt lakes train, the banana boat in Cabo Roig, and Orihuela Costa's sheltered beaches.
