Market in the morning, a stroll in the afternoon

Many regulars make a day of it: the market in the morning, lunch on the spot, then a stroll in the afternoon. Our ideas:

  • 🦩 San Pedro del Pinatar (Monday) and Lo Pagán (Thursday): the Salinas y Arenales Regional Park, over 800 hectares of salt pans home to pink flamingos, and the Lo Pagán mud baths, on the Mar Menor.
  • 🏰 Pilar de la Horadada (Friday and Sunday) and Torre de la Horadada (Wednesday in summer): the 1591 watchtower and the beaches of Torre de la Horadada.
  • 🌴 Mil Palmeras (Tuesday in summer): the beach, then the evening craft market on Paseo Riviera.
  • 🌅 Los Montesinos (Friday): here it's the other way round. A morning walk in the nearby La Mata and Torrevieja Lagoons Natural Park, and the market in the afternoon.
  • 🌲 Guardamar del Segura (Wednesday and Sunday): the pine forest of Parque Alfonso XIII, planted from 1897 to hold the dunes in place, with wooden boardwalks down to the beach.

In summer: the evening markets

  • Mil Palmeras: evening craft market on Paseo Riviera, every night from 1 June to 31 August, 7pm–1am.
  • Lo Pagán: evening market in Parque del Mar Reyes de España, every night from mid-June to the end of August.
  • Guardamar del Segura: craft market on Paseo Ingeniero Mira, every night from 15 June to 15 September, 7pm–2am.

Our tips

  • Go early: between 9am and 11am, parking is easier and it's still cool in summer.
  • Bring cash: many stalls don't take cards.
  • Check for public holidays: times are a guide, and a market may be moved or cancelled during a local fiesta.

Stay close to the markets

Orihuela Costa's two markets are in Playa Flamenca (Saturday) and Cabo Roig (Thursday); Torrevieja's is on Friday.
